Gina’s Story

From darkness into light: how yoga saved my life.

A personal story of pain, change and finding the way back to myself.

Early years

My parents separated when I was about one year old. I never really experienced them together. For many years, I had no contact with my biological father.

My stepfather brought not only his alcohol addiction into his relationship with my mother, but also two children of his own. Together, they had two more. I was the only child who was not his — and he made sure I felt that.

I became the target of blame, humiliation and hatred.

“You can’t do anything. You are nothing. You will never become anything.”

Words that became deeply ingrained. Words that shaped my beliefs for a long time.

I was a quiet, well-adjusted child, always searching for love outside of myself.

At 13, my anxiety disorder began. The constant fear of being seriously ill and dying. Sleepless nights. Panic that determined my entire life. I began therapy. It helped me to some extent with the anxiety — but inside, it became darker and darker.

I slipped deeper into depression.
I tried to take my own life.
I was many things — but I was not happy.

The years passed. Somehow, I kept functioning. Two more courses of therapy followed. But nothing truly touched my heart. Nothing healed my soul.

A turning point

Then yoga came into my life.

I began training to become a yoga teacher — and for the first time, I truly met myself.

I found the courage to change my life. To stop remaining in the role of a victim.

I began to practise — yoga, meditation and mindfulness. I stopped drinking alcohol and paid more and more attention to my health. I followed my path with discipline, but from a place of genuine passion.

And then something happened that I could hardly believe: it was my first year without a depressive episode. That was years ago now, and yet it still moves me so deeply as I write this.

Yoga changed my life. Perhaps it even saved it.

I came to understand that change begins only when you truly want it. When you are ready to let go of identifying with your suffering.

That is not easy.

Coming home

But looking honestly and admitting to yourself, I am not healing yet because a part of me is still holding on — that is the beginning of true healing.

You are your own healer.
All the answers are already within you.

And above all: the love you are searching for cannot be found outside of yourself.

You are that love.
You are that light.

I know that sounds easier than it is. But I have walked this path. And I know that it is possible.

From self-harm, suicidal thoughts, countless tears and profound hopelessness to a life for which I am grateful every day.

Today, I love my life.
And I love myself with all my heart.

There is no single path for everyone — that is something I also learned through my own therapy. This is exactly why it matters so deeply to me to accompany people on their own path. Out of suffering and into a self-determined, fulfilled life.

I am a state-recognised social worker and yoga teacher. I combine professional knowledge with my own experience and spirituality to support you on your path.

If you feel that these words reach you, perhaps that is no coincidence.

Maybe now is your moment to change something.
Let us begin your path together.
I will walk beside you.

With love,
Gina
